Rural House is composed as a series of low, masonry volumes set across an open, sloping landscape. Rather than forming a single object, the house is arranged as a loose aggregation of pavilions connected by a continuous horizontal datum that binds the composition together.

The planning establishes a clear relationship between built form and site. Volumes are positioned to frame views outward to the distant hills while simultaneously shaping protected courtyards and outdoor rooms within. This arrangement creates a balance between exposure and enclosure, opening the house to the broader landscape while maintaining moments of shelter and privacy.
A colonnaded edge extends along the primary façade, forming a deep threshold that mediates climate, light, and occupation. This space acts as both circulation and inhabitable outdoor room, allowing movement along the length of the house while maintaining a constant connection to the landscape.

The central living and dining spaces are expressed as taller volumes where vertical proportion and controlled top light introduce a sense of quiet monumentality. These spaces are anchored by masonry elements such as fireplaces and walls that reinforce the building’s material permanence and provide a consistent internal order.

Materially, the house is defined by a restrained palette of textured masonry, concrete, and timber. The external envelope reads as solid and enduring, while internally these materials are softened through light, scale, and detailing to create a calm, tactile environment.
Rural House is an architecture of placement and proportion. It is less concerned with formal expression and more with how building, landscape, and daily life are carefully aligned, creating a home that feels both grounded in its setting and quietly expansive.
